On an old forum, someone had said that we'd need to discuss things like the decision-making process (eg's of tough decisions, I suppose), roles of science & groupwork in medicine, and I think another big thing was to have an opinion of alternative medicine (homeopathy?) and how it fits in with more 'accepted' medicine...
Not too sure though. Apparently these sort of themes can be revisited each year in the interviews, but there would probably be heaps of other things we could be asked. The main thing is to have real-life examples, I think. Good luck! |

In general, Sydney University interviews for Medicine/Dentistry look at 4 areas according to the "interviewers book" These are:
1) Motivation for doing Medicine/Dent
2) Communication in english skills
3) Empathy skills
4) Tolerance for anbiguity
The first 3 are quite self explanatory. Tolerance for ambiguity revolves around reasoning when there is no right or wrong answer. For instance, supposing there was a patient who is terminally ill and no current modality of treatment was avaible. A new treatment that has not been trialed yet comes available. This treatment can either potentially have good results or potentially accelerate the disease process. How to you come to a decision on whether to use it. What is your reasoning behind this. This is just an example and I am sure there are many more. You should look this concept up on the internet to familiarise yourself with it.

This might be a bit late but all the interview details for Syd uni can be found on their webpage:
http://www.medfac.usyd.edu.au/futurestudent/applicant/local/interview.php
Having sat the Dental interview I'd have to say it follows the same format
I'd imagine that searching each institutions website might also reveal simmilar info from the other Unis. They do have to at least try to appear transparent in their processes.
Hope it helps |
