I’m studying Pharmacy and am considering doing med… just curious about reasons why ppl want to become doctors…
So... Why do you want to study med? |

Hey Rachel! There are loads of different reasons why people get into med. I want to get into med because I like solving problems and working in stressful situations, but i'm just also really interested in science and medicine. I just see it as a job that could easily become my life. Can't say that about anything else.
Probably not great reasons, but there they are.
Why do you want to do it? |

| i wish i knew... so hard to think about... i definately enjoy learning about all the science behind the medicine... but i just really want to serve other ppl and help them look after their health and well being. I guess pharmacy's just as good... if not better... oh well... think i'll just stick with DDR for now. |

| There's no doubt that Dance Dance Revolution is a great way to pass the time (procrastination rocks!), but I guess it all really comes down to what you're prepared to sacrifice for your career. Both doctors and pharmacists serve the wellbeing of others, but in very different ways. Think about the lifestyle you want in your future, and you'll probably find it easier to make a decision. Being a doctor means long hours and a lot of training for a lot of years. There's more freedom for pharmacists compared to doctors in the beginning, in my opinion. |

Mmm I get it! I think i'm happy with the way I'm going at the moment, doing med means that I have to get off my lazy bum and study more and work harder...You guys are amazing!
What I really want with my career is flexibilty in work hours so I can spend lots of time with my kids ... when i get some... and my man...(unless i marry a Doctor )
Do all Doctors have long hours and maybe not as much family time? |

| No, not all doctors do. I talk to my GP about it sometimes when I go see him and he has a lot of time for his family - he has young boys. Again, it depends on the specialty you choose, but I'm sure you can be a surgeon with a life, too! |

| Well firstly I think being a doctor will be my life. But of course, I plan to have a life outside of medicine, though I don't plan on having kids. I think I would just screw them up! |

| I think you'd make a Great father, you'd be a better dad to kids then some of the dads that i know of...no job no life and on drugs... leaving the children just with their mum... or maybe you just dont want to be really responsible for another human life? |

Thanks, Rach.
If I didn't want to be responsible for another human life, then a career as a doctor is probably not a smart move!
I just think I wouldn't have enough time to commit to children, and they deserve to have their parents present in their lives. |
