It seems that this was sent out via email:

Hi ,

I have something very important to share with you. Many of you are preparing
for
the GAMSAT, one of the best resources to help you was the AusMedStudent GAMSAT
forum, this forum contained a wealth of information and knowledge and best of
all
many posters who regularly contributed.

Quite recently, the owner of that site shutdown that forum. It was a great
loss.
Not only have we lost a forum to discuss the GAMSAT, we have also lost a great
archive of knowledge in that forum.

The only active discussion group in use is the Talk-GAMSAT group in Yahoo.
Though it's a great forum, I feel that it has several shortcomings. It's hard
to
search through the archives for information, it is set out in a way that makes
it
hard to engage in multi-threaded discussion. The forum is also moderated, so
all
posts have to be approved before being posted. This adds a time delay to all
posts and discussion.

Consequently I have setup an independent forum dedicated to the GAMSAT,
hopefully
it will be used as the AusMedstudent forum was used. The discussion will be
totally free and open, and I commit to hosting it without bias.

The address is www.gamsatforum.com

I would encourage everyone to use this forum.

Thank you

Chris Lim

"Cough". All I have to say is, well, this is not even close to being accurate. There are several active forums for Australian med entry going at the moment.

There is this one.

For Undergrad med and UMAT there is: http://www.medstudentsonline.com (this is more so for high school students)

For Grad Med and GAMSAT there is: http://clik.to/pagingdr
(this opened about 3 days after Ausmedstudent closed down)

Not to mention Talk GAMSAT and Talk UMAT (Which was one of the only true and agreeable things stated in the above email, but those sites are moderated by, you guessed it, people with a vested interest in various prep courses).

So I suggest you check out all the above-mentioned forums and use them in whatever beneficial way suits you.

spherion.

Hi Spherion,

This is a forum about the GAMSAT. It has not pretended to be anything else.

I've made no secret of the fact that it is in fact myself that hosts this
forum. It is out in the open and there is no hidden agenda. I have allowed all posts to stand other than ones promoting copyright infringement. This post and several other anonymous posts promoting the paging dr. forum are left undisturbed. I welcome you to
contribute to this forum and even promote your own Paging Dr. forum, this is no problem at all.

The fact is that I firmly believe that the GAMSAT Guru Method Manuals are the best GAMSAT preparation product on the market and I welcome any discussion, criticism and comparisons to any other product.

This email was sent out to anybody who subscribed via my website and
consequently this was sent to anyone who was already interested in the
GAMSAT Guru. I do not spam people who are not interested in what I have to say.

I do not believe this is an interesting topic, I do operate GAMSAT Guru and that fact is not hidden. This forum is dedicated to the GAMSAT and I am dedicated to operating this forum independently. I do wish to promote this forum and hence I send an email out to everyone that wants to know about GAMSAT Guru.

Spherion, I know that you have a lot of knowledge to share with GAMSAT candidates from your experience and I encourage you to participate in this forum.

Thank you

Chris Lim

Spherion, the email was not spam. I had subscribed to the regular emails last year and only got this email because I had not unsubscribed. Chris will make it perfectly clear in all his emails that if you do not wish to be a part of his digests, etc, you can remove yourself from his list.

I cannot speak for the existence of other Australian forums focussing on the GAMSAT, but this is a good resource and it's good to spread the word about it. Not everyone knows others sitting GAMSAT (I for one) and publicinsing a forum to help you meet others is not a bad thing.

I voted no because although I do believe that Chris wants to alert you to the fact that he does have GAMSAT reading materials available, I don't think this was his primary aim. At the end of the day, the forum's aim is to get those preparing for GAMSAT together to discuss relevant issues concerning them.

(Anyway on a side note, I want to say THANKS to Chris for the GAMSAT materials, as I made a personal choice to order them. Much cheaper than a lot of material on British shores, and they cover everything! Thanks!!). Very Happy

We all seek to be part of a forum that is objective and dispassionate. This forum CLAIMS to be such a forum but is probably just the “store-front” for GAMSAT Guru. The fact is that our moderator, Adrian, is connected with GAMSAT Guru and has a history of recommending GAMSAT Guru’s services on this forum. I wonder how much Adrian is paid for his handy work by the guru.

1. Is it really possible for GAMSAT Guru to have no commercial agenda in creating this forum?
2. Might Adrian be the mysterious Chris Lim?
3. Do you really want to exchange your personal details with these characters?

See this email (posted on this forum by Adrian) for instance:

akunna, nobody said it was spam. I think the point being made was that the email served to narrow down the field to the flawed yahoo group, and here. Of course nobody wants to be a member of the bad forum, so they'll just come here - and look! GAMSAT GURU material is available!

Whip out your google fingers and see if you can't find more GAMSAT forums.
