Hi,

I was wondering, could anyone give me a rough idea on the time I would require to study for the GAMSAT (oz) exams?
I have a small child and a full time job.
I have studied medicine (natural medicine) from overseas for 5 years.
What courses would you recommend?
I haven't registered for Gamsat as yet. Is 3 months time a little time to study for Gamsat?
Please Advice
Thanks

All I did was buy the publications that ACER sells and go through those to familiarise myself with the format. I registered for the GAMSAT the day before cutoff. If you understand most basic concepts in science, are logical and can structure a piece of writing, I really can't see how studying will help you much, apart from practising and refreshing it in your mind.

Obviously for those with problems in any of the areas study is probably necessary, but to have studied med overseas you would probably be fine.

By the way, I am totally impressed that you are not scared off from doing med even though you have a small child. I'm so sick of hearing people say you can't study and raise a family at the same time- I wholeheartedly disagree, I think anyone passionate about both will find time and make it happen. I'm totally gunning for you!!

Hi drsmorkas,
This is a late reply, but having come across your post today I couldn't help but stop by for a reply. Its just great to know that you are planning to sit GAMSAT. Let me just assure you that with the right amount of determination and grit, you certainly can crack GAMSAT and make it to a medical course of your choice. Yes time is a factor but then with some intelligent time management and proper planning you can surely succeed. So your first task would be to chart out a plan of work for yourself. You can do it best because you best know your own strengths and weaknesses.
I would suggest that you can begin by attempting one full length GAMSAT style paper which would give you a fair idea of your strengths and weaknesses. Evaluate your performance in the paper and chart your study plan accordingly.
If you require any further suggestions please feel free to contact.
Cheers!

Hi drsmorkas,

It really does all depend on previous experience. It sounds like you've got a good science background which is very important. I have 2 small boys and a full time job, though I'm freelance so have some flexibility. I was able to revise and pass in about 3 months. Obviously I'd recommend my blog revisegamsat, but also Griffiths and the Acer practice papers.

Remember a Gamsat score is good for 2 years so give it a shot. You have nothing to lose but a bit of time and a few dollars and everything to gain.

Good luck!
