Hi all.
My niece wanted to do medicine as an undergraduate and got 55 in UMAT but did not get a sufficient TER so is instead now thinking of entry via GAMSAT.
Are UMAT and GAMSAT on the same scale? So does a 55 UMAT (which was top 20% of entrants) correspond to a 55 GAMSAT (all things being equal)? I know top 20% GAMSAT is more like 64 or so, but then again, you'd expect the GAMSAT entrants to be a bit smarter than school leavers, since they have already completed a degree (the chaff don't finish their first degree).
Will she have to lift her game? |

Hey there,
There is no way of correlating between a UMAT and a GAMSAT score. There are too many variables to allow such extrapolation. More and more hopefuls are sitting the GAMSAT each year, and depending on the university she is interested in applying to, it can be extremely competitive. Last year, UQ's cut-off for CSP was 67, which is the 92nd percentile I believe.
If your neice is serious about medicine as a career, she should focus all her energy on maintaining a high GPA and also going through as many GAMSAT practice papers as humanly possible.
All the best |
