who steals the goose from off the common,
but lets the great felon loose
who steals the common from the goose.
anyone know what the last 2 lines really mean?
help needed!

| Different opinion - a common was an English plot of land (ie English commons). Don't know the context of this passage or when it was written (though I'd suggest it's a few centuries old) however based on what's there (assuming it's the whole thing) it refers to a disparity between punishment of those who steal produce (ie goose) off the land and those who damage / scar the land to such a degree that the produce cannot exist. |
