i gave up an offer for a high paid job to enter med (i won academic awards at uni and these companies sponsored the awards)
but you need to consider the reasons you want to do med
and these usually outweigh the financial costs (of lost salary) (although in these economic times it is tough if you don't own a house !
like - you can work anywhere you want (not just where the company wants you).
- you are doing something positive, and not helping a company destroy the environment (eg oil and gas)
- it is challenging
- it is interesting
- you are regarded in terms of your intelligence, not on the way that you look and how much you spent on your suit etc
anyway so what area do you want to specialize in "Lovebite" ? |

I'm enjoying the freedom of unlimited opportunity at the moment.
I'm not going to make a decision about specialisation until after I've had a good look around, and had some experiences.... and I can afford to be like that because its the journey for me, rather than the destination.
Some people come into Med single minded about what they want to do. A good mate of mine (who has gone to Syd now ..) told me, in no uncertain terms when I first met him that he wanted to be a transplant surgeon. Thats it for him... and I know he'll make it.
I have no such single minded drive. I'll smell the medical roses for a few years, and see what I'm passionate about. After all, this is the rest of my professional life we're talking about!
What about you? |
