G'day. I sat this last year and I got 54 overall, with section scores of 55, 66 and 47. Is it even worth applying with that score of <50 in Sec. III? Most, if not all, schools have a requirement of a minimum of 50 in all sections, or in sections I and III. Is it even worth applying with this requirement not being met?

I have a decent GPA of about 5.9 but this won't be enough for me to be considered for special entry at Flinders (6 or greater is needed for that). What about if I apply for a BMP or MRBS places? I am looking at applying to Flinders and Deakin.... Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom.

Hello there - yes it is/was definitely worth applying - if you're not in it you won't know. From last year's applicants there seem to be quite a few across the different schools who got in with sccores under 60 - ranging from 51 upwards. So, I'd be giving it a shot.

you should at least get an interview at a smaller uni

i know people who have failed , and just passed and gotten a place

they are good people too, so the interview counts as well

bonded places are easy to get, well in WA anyway

ok.

NO PLACES ARE EASY TO GET. I know PhD's with BMPs.... hardly slackers. I know people with 65 GAMSATs with BMPs....

and if your GAMSAT is low, then start studying and get your marks up.

The days of sliding into a Med place on the back of your stunning life experiences are over.

Applications are up across the board, and there are heaps of kids who are essentially studying "pre-med" degrees to get huge GPAs and great skills for Medicine.

There are also loads of us older people with great life experiences etc that are taking the move across into med.

Don't give up hope. Apply by all means. BUT for goodness sake, keep studying, and try and make yourself MORE attractive.

If anyone suggests that getting into Med is ever EASY, then I suggest you take a good hard look at the person offering the advice, and make a good judgement about what their advice is worth.
