Hi all
I'm sure this will make a few of you feel better, knowing that I just applied to sit Gamsat this year and have not yet started studying!
I can't believe the many, varied opinions on the different preparation materials- hence my question:
If you had four weeks to prepare for Section III on sciences and were confident in the other two sections but had very limited science knowledge, which notes would you use to prepare?
The way I see it, if someone asked me what entropy was now, my answer would be "I wouldn't have a clue"! But I'm sure I could look it up in a book or on the internet and let you know in 15mins time enough about it to answer a potential Gamsat question. So, really, time is not an issue, it's how to study smart, and therefore what to use to provide the most succinct and easily understable explanations of the required topics.
Can someone tell me which of the preparation notes do this? Am I digging my head into the sand buying Des' notes or will I be happily sitting back in a chair flicking through them going- know I know what entropy is or know I know how to count how many possible variabilities there are as a result of myosis, I'm so glad I bought these?
Thank you so much for your help. I wish you all the best. |

Hi,
I am sitting the Gamsat next year (2010) because i am in the same position as you. I have not studied the sciences, required for the Gamsat. However, you are sitting it this year, so i would suggest maybe the HSC summary guides or something similar. Des O'neils prep course is designed for students who have extensively studied the sciences and just want some revision. Although, still very in depth i might add!
Goodluck with it! I hope you learn what you need to before march! |

| I'm currently using medprep's deluxe course which I think is designed for the scientifically challenged or arts student. Most of the lectures explain seemingly cryptic scientific concepts very clearly and give me the confidence to dive into the textual materials and trial gamsat questions with more confidence. I can actually say that the science is not so terribly hard now. I heard that Des has good trial gamsat questions but they assume a high level of science competence at the outset. These didn't work for me and made me feel like giving up. For orgo, medprep recommends using "organic chemistry as a second language". They have a physics book recommendation too but I am blanking on it as I write this -- I haven't needed it thus far. |

Hi
I can really empathize with you having been in a similar situation myself. But you are right...GAMSAT is about preparing smart and not about burning the midnight oil
Your sandclock is emptying fast...and if you need to clear your science basics real fast, try this website: www.khanacademy.org It is a really great site with videos explaining many basic concepts. It really helped me...and what's more, it is absolutely free
All the best!! |
