are you studying to pass an exam, or ultimately to be a successful Doctor?

Since one must pass GAMSAT before one can become a successful doctor and GAMSAT is not easy to pass, the most logical answer is one should study to pass the exam. Anything else is counting chickens before they hatch. I think anyone who suggests otherwise has already passed the exam and has an entirely different perspective to one who has not.
I have a B.Eng, Masters and PhD and every single exam I sat I did so in order to pass the exam, not to be successful in a career. |

Hey, physics is only 20% but they are not overly difficult and therefore r quite easy marks if u know ur basic physics. They are usually disguised as blood flow, tension on a particular etc. dont get confused into thinking they're bio questions.
So my suggestion is study ur basic physics, especially forces and earn those realtively eas ymarks in physics. |

|
|
| Does anyone have any advice regarding suitable courses to increase GAMSAT section 3 score? I have looked at the open universities/murdoch 13 week course in "principles in physics" which could be relevant- any ideas? |

| If you are very confident in your bio/chem you could probably skip physics but I personally wouldn't. Unlike bio/chem you only need a high school level of physics. I haven't started studying physics yet, but from what I've seen a lot of the questions can be figured out with a bit of common sense. Even if you just peruse a basic physics book, like physics for dummies or something along those lines, its better than nothing. As far as I'm aware section 3 is split into 40% bio, 40% chem (I'm not sure what eprcentage of that is organic) and 20% phyics. |

physics is definately necessary or else you are throwing away 20% of your score. It is not that hard either - you can learn it from scratch in just 2 weeks.
i scored 70 on the GAMSAT last year so if anyone needs a hand just send me a pm or reply - I can give you a comprehensive list of all the knowledge you need! |

| I thought you didn't need to memorize the formulas but just need to know how to use them? I went to that website and it just lists a bunch of formulas to memorize :S |

Gamsat is about giving you stimulus material and seeing how you use it, so they do give you formulas...however....sometimes there are easier ones that you know of by heart and make the calculations simplier...
But at the end of the day, yes, you need to be familiar with what the symbols and letters in the equations stand for because the stimulus rarely includes that. |

I don't really need to get into details right? Like I just need to know how to use the equations and not too much in theory?
Thanks |

The better you understand it, the better position you'll find yourself in. Remember... the science paper is all about time. The less time you need to understand the science underlying a question, the more time you have to work on the actual solution.
You have to put your effort into the areas that you feel will help you best though...... no one can tell you what your strengths and weaknesses are... you need to work that out for yourself.
The best advice I can give you is to be as prepared as possible..... go into as much depth as you can realistically afford given your study program. |

| Also, may I add, I've heard some questions are weighted more than others and physics tends to me weighted more coz thats the subject most people skip... |

The breakdown for all GAMSAT tests:
40% biology
40% chemistry
20% physics |

Thanks! |

Dude, Year 12 Physics, which, unless it has changed ALOT since I did it, does not include quantum physics, my first year Physics at Uni didn't even have Quantum mechanics...
Think Kinematics, Forces (Electrostatic and gravitational), Pressure, Waves and Optics.
I have been placing an emphasis on Torques, Inclined Ramps, Inverse square Laws and Vector resolution in my study. |
