Yes, Scrubs.
I want to be an arrogant, egotistical, millionaire plastic surgeon too!
But seriously, no one can avoid some influence from the media but if it is the primary influence, then the real thing is going to be a huge let down. |

| I've been involved in HIV/AIDS awareness for over 4 years now and am really concerned about the present state of global health. Too many people are at risk for highly preventable diseases like HIV, TB, cholera, and malaria, just to name a few. The recent disasters in Haiti and Pakistan have left millions of people displaced and, as a result, at risk for a plethora of diseases. I'm hoping that with a degree in medicine, I can work with other health professionals to prevent and reverse the spread of infections such as those listed above. |

You know - i wouldn't be surprised if there are some whose choice to be a Doctor has been influenced by TV - there are so many medical related tv dramas out there! (and i do love watching House! )
Though for me, I have wanted to be a doctor ever since I was little! As I've gotten older and really understood what it meant to be a Doctor and treating the sick and diseases, I only became more interested! Graduating from high school I went straight into my undergrad knowing where I was heading. There aren't any Doctors in my extended family, and we don't really know any doctors apart from our own family doctors, so I'd never been able to get into that environment. It wasn't until late in my undergrad that I was actually able to do course related work experience and get into a hospital, shadow doctors, see operations, spend time in radiology! I had always felt that that was where I should be, and when I finally was able to be in that environment it just clarified it for me! It was everything that I thought it would be and I learnt so much! I really cannot wait until we start in January! ... |

Not at all. And I am glad it wasn't.
Real life is very different. Those TV shows give people incomplete ideas, sometimes too romanticized. |
