Is there an age limit to who may sit the exam. Or rather is there a preffered age range the board wishes for students to commence there study of medicine. is there too old??? Confused

Hummm.. well, 80 might be because it could take you up to being 100 before you got all set up and had some form of a reputation going ... :p

From what Ive read (and hours spent reseraching gamsat and different unis ... that is, those in Australia mainly) if you've got the GPA and the gamsat scores to get an interview in the first place, after that its a level playing feild in the realms of the interview. [GPA mostly based on the course you took in the past 10 years to tryin out for gamsat]

At the interview, age might actually HELP you on the thought that if you STILL want to do med despite being older - and that you'd most likely have the background life experience to know yourself and what you want ... and thus the drive/passion/ect that got you this far...

that being said, you should have mentioned how old you are ;p

... wait ... you posted this last year in Oct. .. hummm I have q. did you do 2006 gamsat ? or have you changed your mind about med?

There is no restriction on age for sitting the GAMSAT.

I can tell you that there are a lot of older people who have been admitted to courses across the country.

I believe there is a 55 year old in first year at Notre Dame this year.

And there are bag fulls of mid 40's all over the place.

I know there are some applicants this year who are over 60.

So get in there and have a go!! Cool

Referring to a 40 something person as an 'Older Person' is as ridiculous as a 24 year old calling themselfes a mature age student. Twisted Evil

I'd have to agree with really old - about 40 being old, given that next year I'll be officially old on those grounds. And what's more I might be the oldest of the first years in Dentistry! I sat the Gamsat last year for the first time and am glad to say I won't have to sit it again - unless sometime soon I develop dementia and forget that I've already sat it and got in. Which in some peoples reasoning may be a possibility.

I must be old I'm rambling....

So back to the point - if you want to sit the torture that is the gamsat go for it. And then if you get an interview, just like whitewriter wrote, I think you're in with a slightly better chance than the "younger kids" that are applying given your life experiences.

So good luck and given the initial post by DeeVee is 1 1/2 years old now i hope you got in despit your age!?!

There isn't an age limit as such as for who can sit gamsat, but alot of the universities in Australia stipulate that you have to apply for graduate entry into medicine within 10 years of completing your bachelor degree.

I concur with the no age restriction, I am a 45 year old field and ER paramedic that is studying for the GAMSAT at the moment, I too looked into the age question as well to see if I was just wasting my time.

From what I understand, when it comes to the interview...if I can get my GAMSAT score high enough, it actually pays to have some life expereince in medicine. I guess I will see if I get that far Smile

In terms of the 10 year's since completing your degree...

Some faculties only want prior academic work in the last ten years. In my case I graduated in 1994, but did one year of a PhD in 2001 and therefore qualified under this ruling to apply in 2005 - having sat the gamsat of course!

So there are ways of "bending" the rules if required.
