Hi there. I came across this page on the net but noticed no one had posted in quite a while. I figured there would be a lot of people 'googling' gamsat and coming across this page so I'll start a new discussion for 2007.
I have just paid my fees and trying to figure out where to start. I am keen to get as much info as possible and talk to other people going through the same experience. The posts already up are quite valuable re test material and study guides.
OK, I will be sure to post up any questions in my study I can't answer or put up any info I can gather. |

| Hi. I am registered to sit the GAMSAT in 2007. Coming from the discipline of Education and Literacy, I am scared out of my mind by the sciences. I have had no difficulty with the practice questions I've found on the communication and reasoning skills, but I am overwhelmed by the scope of information I need to know for the sciences. Not really sure where to start studying! What are you doing? Do you know of any others who are sitting/have sat the test without a history in the sciences? |

| a lot of the english have just sat the gamsat there (a lot of unis make them do the same test). A lot of ppl have said it was harder than they thought. If u scan some of the forums, there's a lot of discussions about the 3rd (science) section. I am starting by reviewing my basic 1st year uni chemistry. See if u can borrow someones notes whos done chem at uni. there is a lot to review but its important u understand the basics. next, biochem, then biology. fun fun fun... |

Just want to say hi to everyone here who's going to sit the 2007 GAMSAT.
I only started studying recently too, it's difficult with full time work commitments and a social life added to it.
Anyhow i'm in melbourne, graduated in optometry so i've done all the first year sciences, but its been so long that i've pretty much forgotten everything there is to know.. back to the drawing board.
Although i've got my notes from uni, due to time constraints and lets say being a little lazy, i might purchase the medired notes.. which should summarised everything...
how are you all preparing? |

Hi everyone.
I'm just starting to look at Gamsat material and like everyone, its been really hard with uni, work commitments and everything else.
I've still got my deferred exams next week and summer semester exams in early feb. After that, all my time willl be devoted to Gamsat study (hopefully).
I'm about to enter into third year advanced science so some basic science is still fresh in my head.
I do want to get some extra study material so i know exactly what to study and have a better idea of the exam... does anyone have any pointers on which prep material is best? |

|
|
Organic Chemistry for Dummies - Borders should have it.
Any/all VCE/HSC Physics books
Biology - harder because it seems GAMSAT syllabus includes aspects of 2nd year physiology, 2nd year biochem etc. along with VCE/HSC stuff.
I bought medprep - nothing else to judge it by, and the chapters seem somewhat disjointed (some lots of detail, others little detail), but overall with its 30 day study guide it's helpful to get some structure to your study routine.
One other thing to look out for re interview prep courses: in 2007 Monash is going to a different format - 2 hrs of 15 minute workstation interactions with people. Make sure any course you pay for covers this kind of test if you are thinking of applying there (or any other institution moving towards it - I think they all are given the recent results on the non-correlation of GAMSAT and uni performance). |
