Hi everyone,

This year, I was extremely disappointed to have failed the umat because I didn't take it seriously enough, but with my heart set on becoming a doctor, I plan to sit the gamsat in the next 3 years and apply for Med via graduate entry. I'm now on holidays for the next few months, so I guess it's the perfect time to do some early but worthwhile prep for the gamsat...

So can anyone please help me and recommend some science textbooks for gamsat prep?

I'm sorry the umat didn't go well for you, but it's good to know that you haven't lost hope. The same thing happened to me actually - I took the umat in 2006 and completely flunked it, mainly b/c of time mismanagement during the test, and b/c I had the misfortune of getting all the questions I was crap at in the first section Evil or Very Mad (it all went downhill from there...)

Anyway, have you looked into taking the umat during your 1st/2nd year at uni? (I'm guessing you are in your first yr right now.) I don't know how many other unis offer this choice, but I know that first & second yrs at Adelaide Uni can still take the umat and go through the whole admissions process to be accepted into Adel. uni's undergrad medical program. I reckon that beats waiting for 3yrs, & I think getting into medicine via the umat would be easier, which I guess is one of the many reasons I was so pissed at myself for not passing it *sigh*...oh well, if that isn't an option for you, then the next stop for both of us is the Gamsat!Smile

hi,

i'm studying for the gamsat.

go to des o'neills website (comptext com au) or just google it..

you can get a free information pack that they deliver, it has a practise test and some essay prep but then has a list of required knowledge and a list of recommended texts.

McMurry's organic chemistry is where i started cos i didn't even do yr 12 chem,
