Hello, I'm Amy.
I'm 23, have been an RN for nearly three years and have spent two and a half of those working in Emergency. Eventually I plan to become an Emergency Physician.
I work in Melbourne, have spent some time working in Darwin and in three weeks I am moving to Alice Springs to work in the Emergency Department there. I plan to sit the Gamsat in 2011 (providing I actually get some study/preparation done whilst in Alice Springs rather than just frying my brain and liver with alcohol) - I'm currently struggling most with section 1!
I just found this website and I have to say, it's interesting reading about different people's backgrounds and why people have decided to study medicine. Best of luck to everyone! |

Hi,
I'm Christopher. I took the Gamsat in the UK last Friday - struggled with science, but more because of the timing than the substance. Am already starting to revise for next year.
I am a nurse by training, but now working for lawyers (so a bit of a turncoat). Suddenly realised about four months ago that I very, very much want to be a doctor, after having assumed for years that it's just something I could not do. It might also be because I felt the hot breath of Father Time as he snaps at my heels, which makes him sound like a dog, but there you go.
I also want to know just how stupid I am, and I think Gamsat will do that nicely!!
Amy - I can't really give much advice, but I read somewhere that reading The Great Gatsby will help. I puzzled about this slightly at the time, but I now realise that reading quite a lot of literature, particularly of the high quality that TGG is, will help to develop the analytical skills that will be of huge importance for Section 1.
All the best, and the greatest of luck to you.
Chris |
